Tracking a Wildfire

Updated on

In addition to the precipitation and convective storm perils, Dexter Tracker also provides high resolution wildfire event tracks.

In this section, we'll discuss the workflow and capabilities of Dexter Tracker Wildfire.

Dexter Tracker - Wildfire

Dexter Tracker will default to DAILY TRACKS, which provides high resolution storm tracks for our precipitation and convective storm perils.

To access wildfire events within Dexter Tracker, select WILDFIRE EVENTS from the top left of the page. Once selected, the WILDFIRE EVENTS button will illuminate in white.

The Wildfire Events page initially provides a list of all active U.S. wildfires.

To track a wildfire from a non-current month or year, simply make your selections from the month and year drop downs, then select TRACK.

Wildfire events are available from March 2017 - Today.

You may filter the wildfire list by name, state, severity, or size.

  • Name - To filter by name, simply begin typing the name of the wildfire in the Filter Fires box.
  • State - To filter by state, select the desired state from the All States dropdown. Only states with a wildfire track for that month/year will populate in the list. (i.e. if the state isn't listed, there are no wildfire tracks available for that state during that time period.)
  • Severity - To filter by severity, select Minor or Major from the Any Severity dropdown.
  • Size - To filter by size, select the desired wildfire size from the acreage 0+ Acres dropdown.

Once you find the desired wildfire event, select the wildfire from the list.

Dexter will then display additional data and the map will zoom to the wildfire footprint.

Wildfire event data is updated four (4) times per day.

Plotting Exposures

For enhanced situational awareness, Dexter allows you to plot your exposures to see which insured locations are in or near the wildfire perimeter.

To plot exposures, select the blue EXPOSURES button along the bottom left of the page.

For additional help on plotting your exposures, see our Plotting Exposures user guide.
