Event Reports

Updated on

Dexter's Event Reports allow you to specify weather data for a specific date and location.

To investigate weather events spanning multiple days, months, or years, you will utilize Dexter's Seasonal Reports or Dexter's Historical Reports.

In this section, we'll discuss how to create an Event Report.

Accessing DexterReports

When you log in to Dexter, Tracker is the default page that displays when the product is launched.

To access Dexter Reports, select the down arrow next the word Tracker in the header. This will provide a list of the other sub-products available. In this case, you will select Reports.

Selecting a Location

DexterReports allows you to search for a location using any of the following:

  • Street Address
  • Zip Code
  • City
  • Latitudinal and Longitudinal Coordinate Pair
  • Public Land Survey System (PLSS)

You may also select a location by simply selecting the desired location directly on the map.

If you are unsure about how to select a location, please reference the section Selecting a Location.

Creating an Event Report

Once you have selected your location, Dexter will locate and display your location on the map.

From this screen, you may select:

  • Report Type
  • Units
  • Date
  • Perils

Event Reports are available for Hail, Rain, Snow, Freezing Rain, Heat, Cold, and Straight-Line Wind events.

Dexter Event Reports are available for any single day between June 1, 2015 and yesterday.

You may select one or all perils to create your event report. When you select a peril, the peril's background will change color.

Once you have selected the event type, units, date, and all desired perils, simply select GENERATE REPORT.

Once you generate the report, the next page will provide a peril-specific summary of the weather experienced at the selected location on the selected date.

You may further investigate a particular peril by selecting the peril name next to SUMMARY.

For this example, we will investigate Straight-Line Wind.

Because the exact timing of a weather event may be unknown, Dexter Event Reports provide peril data for a 96-hour window (48 hours before and after) around your selected date.

After selecting Straight-Line Wind, Dexter will display a visual time series of the sustained winds and wind gusts experienced at your selected location. To see the wind severity and timestamp of the event, simply hover the cursor over the data point in the graph.

Exporting your Event Report into a PDF

To export your event report into a PDF, select the button with the downward pointing arrow, next to the address in the blue box along the top left of your screen.

The Save Dexter PDF box will pop up and allow you to add optional details to your PDF event report.

Once you have edited any desired fields, select DOWNLOAD PDF.

Select DOWNLOAD REPORT to finish and view your report. The PDF report will download locally to your computer.

The PDF version of the Dexter Event Report will provide the same peril severity and summary provided in the DexterReports user interface, in an easily shareable format.
