Tracking a Storm

Dexter Tracker allows you to accurately analyze a storm, within hours of it occurring, through high-resolution visualizations and severities for Hail, Straight-Line Wind, Tornadic Storm, Rainfall, Snowfall, and Freezing Rain events.

In this article, we will discuss how to track a storm using Dexter.

How to Track a Storm

To begin, select DAILY TRACKS from the top left corner of the Dexter Tracker home page.

To investigate a weather event, simply:

  • select the desired peril  
  • select a date
  • select TRACK

Selecting a Peril

To select a weather peril, select the desired peril's icon.

If needed, hovering over each weather peril icon will display the peril name.

The currently selected peril will have a solid colored circle behind it.

Selecting a Date

  • The date selection will default to the current day.
  • Use the arrows on either side of the date display to toggle to the next/previous day.
  • To select a specific date, the user can directly edit the values within the date display by placing the cursor in the month, day, or year sections and editing the desired value.

To select a specific date using the calendar, select the drop-down arrow next to the date display to access the calendar, and select the desired date.

Data Availability

Dexter Tracker stores several years of high-resolution storm data across the continental United States, however the amount of historical data available and the update frequency is peril specific. Please reference the table below for specific availability and update details for each peril.

Track the Storm

Once the peril and date are selected, select TRACK to investigate the weather event!
