Plotting Exposures and Exporting Peril Risk Scores

Updated on

Overlaying your exposures over the Risk Map allows users the ability to view exposures across a desired area on the Risk Map as well as the ability to export peril risk scores for specific areas of risk concern.

In this section, we will discuss how to plot exposures on the Risk Map and Export peril risk scores.

You will only be able to follow these instructions if you have your exposure data stored in the Gauge Database.  Risk Maps does have a feature that allows you to manually upload location data to export peril risk scores.  Refer to the Uploading Location Data user guide.

If you would like to learn more about storing your exposure data in the Gauge Database, please contact your Athenium Analytics Account Manager.

Plotting Exposures

When you log in to Gauge, Underwriting is the default page that displays when the product is launched.

To access Risk Maps, select the down arrow next the word Underwriting in the header. This will provide a list of the other sub-products available. In this case, you will select Risk Maps.

Once the Risk Maps screen loads, select the blue EXPOSURES box at the bottom left of the page.

If your company has their exposure data stored in the Gauge Database, the default menu option will be My Insured Locations.

If your company does not have their exposure data stored in the Gauge Database, the default menu option will be Manual Location Upload.

For help uploading exposure data using the Manual Location Upload option, go to our Uploading Location Data user guide.

My Insured Locations

Gauge Risk Maps allows users the ability to display their exposure data on the map by either defining a center point and setting a RADIUS or drawing a POLYGON shape on the map.

This next section will walk through both of these options.

Plot Exposures Using the Radius Option

Gauge Risk Maps will plot all exposures within a circle, using the radial distance from a specific point that you select.

Workflow:

1. Select the Radius option (the box will illuminate in blue once selected).

2. Select a center point by selecting a location on the map.

3. Select a radius (between 1-20 miles)

4. Select DONE to display your exposures the exposures.

Use the navigation tools to zoom into the map to set your center point.

After selecting DONE, all stored exposures within the radius selected will display on the screen.

Plot Exposures Using the Polygon Option

Gauge Risk Maps will plot all exposures within the polygon shape that you draw.

Workflow:

1. Select the Polygon option (the box will illuminate in blue once selected).

2. Select a point on the map to begin adding boundaries to your polygon.

3. Continue to select points to add boundaries to your polygon.

4. Double click on the final point to complete the shape to display the exposures.

Use the navigation tools to zoom into the map to set your center point.

After double-clicking on the final point, all stored exposures within the area selected will display on the screen.

If you select a Radius or draw a Polygon across cells where there are no stored exposures, the system will display a message indicating no exposures were found in the drawn area.

Viewing Exposure Details

Once your exposures are plotted on the map, you can view exposure details.

The blue dots that display on the map represent the exposures that fall within the area you have defined. Hovering your mouse pointer over those blue dots will display summarized exposure information.

Using your mouse, when you select one of the exposure dots, detailed exposure data can be referenced from the View Locations menu.

Select SUMMARY and ALL Fields to view your available data.

When you are done reviewing, click on CLOSE

If you would like to export your exposures along with risk scores, follow the instructions available in the Export Exposures and Risk Scores section below.

Filtering Exposure Data

Once your exposures are plotted on the map, you have the option to use the Filter feature to narrow down your exposure results.

Select the ADD FILTER option displayed below your Total Insured amounts.

Available Fields to filter on will display.

After selecting the field you would like to filter on, set your filter criteria and select APPLY FILTERS to display your results.

You can set more than one filter.  After making your first filter selection you can click on ADD FILTER to enter additional filter criteria.

You can clear filters by selecting the CLEAR ALL FILTERS.  This will remove any filtered exposures.

Clearing your Exposures

After you have reviewed your stored exposures on Risk Maps, if you would like to clear out the exposures and plot around a new area on the map, click on the Clear Exposures (X) in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

After clicking on Clear Exposures,  you will be brought back to the My Insured Locations screen.

You can either choose to plot a new area on the map, navigate to another function on the screen or within the Gauge product.

Export Exposures and Risk Scores

To export exposures along with peril risk scores, select the Export Exposures icon after your exposures have been plotted on the map.

Once selecting the Export Exposures icon,  the Export Exposures menu box will display.

All the available perils that your company has been set up to access will be available to select from.

You can choose to export all available perils, or select individual perils.

Click on the Un-Select All option and select the perils you would like to include in your export.

If you have access to the Gauge Earthquake Peril, the earthquake risk scores are currently only available in the following states:

  • AR - Arkansas
  • IL - Illinois
  • IN - Indiana
  • IA - Iowa
  • KY - Kentucky
  • MO - Missouri
  • OH - Ohio
  • OK - Oklahoma
  • TN - Tennessee

Once you have selected the perils you want to include in the export, click on EXPORT SPREADSHEET in the lower right hand corner of the EXPORT EXPOSURES menu box.

After selecting EXPORT SPREADSHEET, the menu box will disappear.

After a few moments, you should receive a confirmation message that your file will be emailed to you when it is ready.

Select OK to close this message.

The amount of exposure data contained within the report will affect the amount of time it will take to receive the report.

When your report is ready, you will receive an email from Athenium Analytics with a link to click on to download your Gauge Risk export request.

Click on the link to download your report.  Once opened, you can save to your desired location.

The report will contain all exposures identified in the area selected, along with the peril risk scores.
