Weather Risk

Phase Details

Updated on

Now that you've created a project, you can add template phases of construction to view weekly, phase-specific risk analysis and manage forecast alerts and post-event notifications. You may also create custom phases to manage forecast alerts and post-event notifications only.

Add New Phase

This is the "Edit" area of your new project site, and may be accessed any time by clicking the pencil icon in the upper right of the screen while viewing your project (see the Edit or Delete a Project chapter).

Select ADD NEW PHASE from your new project site's Site Management page.

Select your phase of construction from the listed templates. If your phase is unrelated to any of the provided templates, select No Template to create a custom phase.

Phase Risk Analysis

GaugeConstruction Phase Risk Analysis depicts the weekly risk of adverse weather conditions that can impact activities throughout different phases of construction. Specific to each project location, the score is based on the historical frequency of certain weather perils exceeding phase-specific thresholds established by Athenium Analytics.

Athenium Analytics calculates risk scores for four phases of construction; Excavation, Foundation, Framing and Enclosure. As equipment, processes and materials change from phase to phase, exposures and weather-associated risks also change. Therefore, selecting or adding a different template phase may produce a different risk profile.

If you've selected a template phase, you will see a bar graph ranging from green (low-risk) to red (high-risk) for each week of the year. Hovering over each bar will display the corresponding date range. Maximum and average weekly risk scores are displayed based on the start and end dates selected for your phase.

In this section, you may edit the name of your phase, edit the template being used, and select phase start and end dates from the calendar dropdown menus. Custom phases will not produce risk scores, but may be used for customizing forecast and historical alerts for the activities associated with your custom phase.

Selecting More Information will display weather perils and threshold extremes used to calculate risk for the selected template phase.

Wind at Altitude

In addition to ground wind speeds, GaugeConstruction will calculate hourly forecast and post-event sustained wind speeds during each phase of construction for any altitude up to 490 feet. Altitude wind speeds are calculated by analyzing high-resolution land cover data for your project site's surroundings, in combination with ground wind speed and direction.

If you'd like to receive altitude sustained wind speed data and alerts for this phase of construction, simply enter an altitude up to 490 feet in Phase Wind at Altitude box You'll then be able to set your wind speed threshold at your configured altitude for forecast and post-event alerts under the Forecast and Historical alerts tabs.
